my leg hurts

Top of mind this week: I got my fitbit. Which immediately puts a few stats top of mind at the moment:
- steps in a day
- calories consumed
- sleep cycle
So in the past few days, Fitbit says I've been doing well. At least, what I consider well. With the exception of steps because of the shelter-in-place order (due to coronavirus), I've been tracking my calories, and I seem to be getting good sleep.
That being said:
- I'm hungry a lot.
- I still feel tired and sore after waking up
- my weight has gone down slightly, but not that much to be honest.
With all that in mind, cheers to a healthier me.
Again, I survive another round of layoffs. One could say that I'm a survivor of sorts. I have mixed feelings about it. Why I'm glad:
- no need to look for another job.
- an opportunity to work from home
- being able to make changes without needing to consult with other engineers
And why I'm anxious:
- if this doesn't work out, it's only a matter of time before I'd need to look for a job anyway.
- stock market is tanking, so my cash reserves are down. Guess I should have saved more cash, and had fewer investments.
- that is a long way of saying that I need to be more frugal.
- being the sole engineer, it means more pressure on me when things are broken.
Working from home is nice, but with the shelter-in-place, I'm actually feeling disconnected. It was also nice just having a clear schedule from day-to-day, as well as a specific place dedicated to work, which definitely helped my focus.
I did have a minor hiccup in my sleep pattern. I was using the Sleep Cycle app (for the first time in years), and I had to place my phone next to my bed.
I woke up when the alarm went off, turned off the alarm, and just laid in bed for almost an hour. I never realized how helpful it was that I placed my phone across the room, forcing me to wake up, until that moment.
Things I've been kind of slacking with, and other things I'm trying:
- Cracking the Code Interview study. It's dense material, and still literally just reading, and not really doing a ton of studying yet. As such, I've broken it up from 2-hours study windows on Saturday / Sunday to 15-30mins / day everyday. I think the repetition will help.
- Japanese kanji study. Well, I've started my kanji workbook again, which I'm happy about. I did the first chapter, which took me about 15 mins. I also decided to break up with large single block of time, insteady a 15-30min block of time 4x a week. Same thing with Korean study (been going over the TTMIK lessons), except just 3x a week.
- Food logging has been fascinating. I want to keep doing it, but I also don't want to starve myself.
- I am frequently not following my schedule during my "consumptive" blocks, opting to just watching TV shows. I guess that's all well and good, but I'm not sure what to think about that. I guess that's a habit I need to work on, but at the same time since consumptive activities are my "off time", do I need to be as strict? Not sure yet.
Well, seems like my blog entries have turned into a discussion about my recent habits, and maybe that's alright. Something that's been top-of-mind for years is trying to "hack" my social skills. Things I want to do:
- be more open and honest with myself and other people
- be more social, and be a good friend.
- get back into the "dating game"
Not sure about that last one yet. We'll see. Or, I'll see.
Meh.
