orange you glad that you're reading this?

It was technically a 4 day work week, and as much as I'd like to say that I don't care for technicalities, I am very much all about them. Although, as I'm thinking about that, I can't really say that my week was very much different than any other previous week, so "meh" to that.

In short, I've been feeling a little down, and I'm not sure why. I have a few inklings about some external factors:

  • the air is terrible
  • I sometimes feel like I do more work than is "needed"
  • I haven't been eating very well.

And I am not kidding when I say that the "air is terrible" - more accurately, the air quality is terrible:

It's bad enough that we are forced to stay indoors because of a lethal pandemic - now, the air sucks and it makes it hard to breathe.

So, pretty much, the year 2020 still fucking sucks.

At the risk of jinxing myself and the entire world, it's even more awful to think that the current President could get re-elected. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

The beginning of September has a few special dates that I'll probably not forget for some time:

  • too many birthdays fall on or around September 7th
  • 9/9/99 is the release of the Sega Dreamcast
  • 9/11/2001 is still a day of remembrance
  • 9/11 is also my ex-girlfriend's birthday

But I'll remember 9/9/2020 because that's the day that San Francisco's inhabitants were collectively transported to Blade Runner 2049. Here's a photo of the roof deck that I took that day:

With everything else that's going on, wildfires are still burning up the place and fucking with the air quality. What's even funnier is that I think it got a little darker as the day went on. Here's a photo I took of roughly the same spot, only 2 hours earlier:

It seems that 2020 won't let up yet. Maybe that's why I'm feeling a little down.

On an unrelated note, I got a house plant:

my new snake plant from The Sill

While I don't relish the idea of being the custodian of another living thing, here's hoping that Snakey will be resilient to my eventual (and unintentional) neglect.

I also did not know that living plants could be shipped in the mail. I was impressed by the packaging, which had this message prominently displayed on all sides:

plants make people happy - the sill

"Plants make people happy". I sure hope so, because I could use some of that, considering the current state of the world right now.

I'm still only about ~25 hours into Divinity: Original Sin. My penchant for not playing on weekdays is an odd one - I wonder if I'll ever break that habit.

I really like the art style, and the cool wallpapers I find online:

According to How Long To Beat, I've still got about 40 hours to go - and I'm already keeping my eye on playing part 2.
