this is not a normal week.

Normally, I'd be doing a week in review type of deal.
This week is odd. My birthday was yesterday (Friday), and I get an extra-long weekend since I requested Monday and Tuesday off. Not only that, but Thursday was pretty much a half-day from work.
First, a week in review. The theme of the week seems to be: not sticking to a routine, or some of the healthier habits I've been trying to develop.
- Eating-wise. I notice that I've been eating way too much. The other thing too is that it doesn't take as much to fill me up anymore. I wonder if there's something to do.
- The grand decluttering scheme. The amount of stuff that I've shifted around seems astronomical. But at least it's gotten to the point where most of my space is usable. I should get back into trashing some old stuff or putting things into some newly reclaimed storage.
- morning schedules. I think I've almost figured out my sleep cycle. It's gotten to the point where I don't think I'd be able to sleep in again. Today, I set my alarm for 8 am, but I was already awake and rolling around in bed around 6 am. The 6 am time slot seems like a good time - I wonder if it's because it corresponds with the sunrise. I still think I'd like to get up before 6 am though.
With my mornings all out of whack, I've been spending my mornings doing lots of other things that I haven't scheduled for myself. A few takeaways from this week:
- social media does not help at all. I kind of like the idea of social media, and I have heard people go on about accountability. But things like the social media platforms, forums, websites: I feel like I don't get much out of them. Kind of ironic, given that a web presence is something I definitely think is a good thing.
- the literal act of getting up out of bed has been more helpful to me waking up than anything I've ever tried. So keeping my alarm out of arms reach is going to be a habit that I keep.
- I've found that I don't need the rigidity of Habitica as much anymore. There are things that I automatically do without checking. There are even days where I've only opened the site once, late in the day. I'm calling this a good thing.
I'd say there were two notable events this week.
First was hanging out for the last time with coworkers. I don't think I'll post the photo of us publicly online, but for my future self: here's the link.
Second, was my birthday; I guess that counts as notable. I might do a separate post about the day, and it's events, but I guess I'll write the short-short-version here.
I got up as usual, when through my normal morning routine.
I wrote a blog entry about my previous birthdays in years past, as I was determined to do some self-reflection. I didn't think about the past year, but I probably will gather my thoughts about it in another post soon.
Gifts! I think I'm at the age where gifts don't matter as much, but I did buy myself a few choices items:
- a Toolbox. So random, so needed.
- Some DVD/Blu-rays of my favorite Japanese TV shows
- A photobook of my current Japanese celebrity crush: Sakurai Reika
- Some video game-related "guide books" for the Dreamcast and Saturn.
And then there was the food:
- A half dozen donuts from Dynamo Cafe
- Lobster mac & cheese from Luke's Lobster
- massive and entirely unnecessary order of food from Lao Table
Other than that, I spent an exorbitant amount of time playing Kingdom: Two Crowns.
And then there were the birthday wishes and messages, for which I will forever be grateful.
I think I'll leave this "week-in-review" at that. I should blog more often.
